Cataracts are the main cause of blindness worldwide and the worrying aspect of them is that they generally develop slowly and so many people lack the means of both identifying and treating them. Just think for a moment about the implications of slowly going blind whatever your age. As the main breadwinner in a family, what will the future hold? It may be that a youngster suddenly finds himself or herself needing to bring money into the family home.

The answer to this problem is not easy. Surgery, where available, is still expensive for the poor, and not a great prospect for anyone who is nervous. A healthy diet can be elusive for many people while treatments such as supplements in the form of eye drops to keep eyes healthy might be the answer although access to them is difficult at times. Let us hope that the world can really wake up to the problem!
